Cade Quarter, a forlorn hoper
Forlorn Hopers were desperate and pennyless or persecuted individuals that fled Great Glade to jump aboard one of the great skytaverns. The highest ironwood gantry in the Ledges was called 'The Forlorn Hope'. It had once been used to roll timber from logging ships into phraxbarges, but when a newer gantry was built on the other side of the Ledges, had fallen into disuse. Forlorn Hopers attempted to jump on one of the departing skytaverns to board them without a ticket. Many of the Forlorn Hopers died in the attempt or were caught by skymarshals and sky-fired.
