I had noticed in the Recent Wiki Activity log that you hadn't edited for a while... but I had hoped that somehow you would be able to get in a small edit just before the timer ran out. That's too bad what happened. :(
81 days is a very good number of days edited in a row. Currently I am only at 47. The last one I missed was when I was sick on Christmas Eve. I don't see anything in the next 13 or 53 days that should stop me from editing every day, but you never know what might happen with school or life in general to get in my way.
It took me a moment to realize what was edited about this picture... but now that I do realize it I love it. This is certainly going on my user page alongside the Woodfish/Goom hide and seek picture. :)
DeadlyDirtBlock, you give me hope that Gloamglozer and her tree uprising can be stopped. All is not yet lost! Long live the Anti-Tree alliance! We will make sure that our glade-eaters have protection for the drivers!
The chat was actually a bit of a fail today. We moved the time in the hopes that we could accomodate Synth, but they didn't manage to make it. Next week, the chat will be back at the old time 5:30 UTC (unless we decide differently) and we'll also continue to experiment with times. Hopefully we will find one that can fit all 6 people, although that is unlikely.
It's understandable that you missed this chat time. It was quite confusing due to timezone differences and it ended up being at a really bad time for you Europeans. I understand the pain of having to wake up early. Like DeadlyDirtBlock said, the plan is for it to be back to normal next week unless someone from an akward timezone wants to join, in which case we will consider another time.
I agree with the answers above. We'll change it to the normal chat time which is more okay for everyone, even if it's then tST who has to wake up early. And when someone else wants to join, we have an alternative.
I was just reading through the Edge Chronicles Facebook archives to see if I could find any bits of Behind the Scenes info, and I realized something awesome and interesting. The Edge Chronicles Facebook sometimes posts "Profiles" of certain things, like "Character Profile: Chinquix" or "Place Profile: Free Glades." These consist of an image and a sentence or two about those things... and most of the sentences are actually taken right from this wiki! Their "profiles" are our introduction paragraphs! (and I checked the dates, our introductions came first) This isn't true for every single profile, and the profiles are usually modified a bit from the introduction (like a change in tense, or adding or deleting a sentence), but it is still really neat. I am not sure how to link to individual posts, but the one that I noticed, and that is very obvious, is Place Profile: Riverrise, on August 3, 2017, if you are interested in looking. The page it is on is HERE .
Not so many people know about wikis. Especially older people who didn't grow up with the internet, so I guess that's no surprise. I didn't know about wikis either, but now it happens very often that I check for something on a wiki like Harry Potter or Star Wars. Wikis are a good research page for writers of fanfiction or people who create fanart, so that's the people who use wikis.
But if I was a writer, I'd be amazed that people put a lot of work in collecting and categorising my work.
I guess Chris Riddell should know about the wiki? I'm not sure, but he's more active online.
So I think the website as well as the Facebook are run by some marketing people from the publisher. (UPDATE: http://www.moonage.co.uk/work/ is an advertising company who did the website)
I think they are doing the readathons genuinely, but they are not experts of these books (That's why for some time after the website was launched, one of the main character's image was actually someone else).
But I am fine with them using us for a source about the Edge Chronicles. That's what a wiki is for, after all, that's what I use Wikipedia for all the time.
I scrolled through the pages a bit and July 17th is also exactly like our page. Just the past tense is changed to present and the last sentence is missing.
It would just be interesting to know if they already did that before we sent them the link to our wiki to promote it.
We sent them our request to post something about the wiki in November 2016, (1).
The text about Cowlquape is from our wiki and was posted before they posted about the wiki. We had already sent them the link though.
UPDATE: The rotsucker text is also similar to ours and was posted before we even contacted them. They were using the wiki before we asked them to promote the wiki!
I have written up last month's poll and I wanted to set up a new one. I remembered that we made a list of lots of polls for this year- but I can't seem to find where it is. Please can you send me a link and I'll put it up as soon as possible
I think that was a joke back when nobody had any actual ideas for what the first poll of 2018 would be, but now we have quite a few other possibilities to choose from. We could still use it though, it is funny. Maybe it would be better to use it in April (because of April Fools Day).
Thanks for your help- I have put the new poll up- don't forget to vote! Also I like the idea of the April Fools Joke for that poll- maybe only keep it up the 3rd or 4th- people can vote, but its up long enough still to be a joke!
Okay, there you go, thanks for all the answers. Sorry for my absence, I was on vacation for a week with my family and then discovered that in the alpine areas there's no wifi and not even mobile data. Destroyed my 60 days of editing on the wiki :(
Yes, it was a joke back than, and yes, we could make it a poll for a few days in April.
Should we keep the Christams/Wodgiss design until the 6th of December (Three Wise Men's Day at least in Germany, that's ususally when we remove all decorations and the Christmas tree) and then I will change the descriptions back, remove the Wodgiss card and all that?
I was beginning to get a bit worried, you disappeared without saying anything. It's a shame about your 60 days, and I also noticed that The Strange Traveller lost his/her 60 days as well by not editing on the 25th of December... At least you're back, though. In my family we usually keep decorations up until January 7th, because that's when Russians celebrate Christmas (my grandmother is Russian). Just remove them when you have time in a few days, I guess.
Welcome back! I'm fine with leaving the Wodgiss design on the main page for a little while longer. It's nice to have something different for a little while. And yes, I unfortunately lost my sixty days of editing on Christmas Eve when I was sick. I think DDB is the only one with a high number of days in a row right now.
On another topic that we can cover real quick, who will be around for the chat time this weekend? I am pretty sure that I will be, and it would be nice to talk about some things.
Martingloamg, it seems that somehow the boxes were all off by a few pixels. I have no idea why, it seems to be allright what you did. I fixed it and added a few other objects that now link to articles.
I am pretty sure I'll be there for the chat time as well. It's good if you have some things to discuss prepared.
I can also unblock the main page if you want to make any improvements or change some of the design. Just be careful with the polls, it often deletes the votes that were cast when you change anything about it.
Hello. Edge Chronicles Wiki looks good and I will be happy to approve it for a spotlight. However I cannot approve it now for a spotlight in July. You can have two spotlights per year - would you like one now, and then you can request another next summer?
Okay, so that'd be the picture I would like to use. The other admin is currently busy and thus not much on the wiki, so I hope it is fine if I decide this on my own. Or this one, if it fits slightly better.
Hi. I like that picture, but the spotlights use a horizontal picture layout and it tends to cut off the top and bottom if the input image is square like that. While I suspect you don't mind the feet, it would be better not to cut off their heads! Perhaps you could crop the image to keep the part you want? It should be roughly 2x as wide as it is high.
I'm pretty sure the hardback cover is just temporary, because there's no point in having a plain cover saying "Coming July 2018" after it's released. I could be wrong, but I think it's just a placeholder. The actual cover might end up being the same as the paperback, or it might be different. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Okay, so DeadlyDirtBlock pretty much gave you an answer. The only thing I don't know is that if there is a limited version, will there also be a normal hardcover? Or maybe that is published later?
The Edge Chronicles Facebook hasn't even announced the special edition, so I guess there will be a special announcement and stuff.
I have the same problem, I can't decide which one I want. I mean, all my Edge Chronicles books are different editions, so I don't need one to "fit in", but I still very much like the paperback cover, the colour and the illustration and all. But well, the other edition is SPECIAL. And I like hardcovers way more than paperbacks, because my paperback copy of Doombringer already looks really battered although I only read it twice and with great care.
I hope the limited edition is getting a dust jacket (is that how it is called?) with the illustration. Then I'll be happy.
And I am going to either buy the book from Amazon or my preferred way, going to the book shop and tell them that I want this edition only and will not accept the other one.
There is a lot of discussion about the Descenders on the Discussions page. I enabled that because I was annoyed by the forums. You don't get notifications about them until you follow the discussion.
Sorry I haven't been editing too much- I've been really busy. Are you doing any new things on the wiki and just the same? We have loads of new people now which is great!! It's what we wanted for ages!!!
Hi, I assumed you were just busy. I won't be doing much in January/February, I will have my exmas then, too.
The Strange Traveler has been doing big changes to the locations. DeadlyDirtBlock is just editing everywhere with great enthousiasm. The Strange Traveler and I chatted a bit last sunday and are now looking into stuff for the Descenders. There is the blog post and also a discussion in the discussions feature about that.
They both really know how to do things on wikis, and it's really great too have them, too.
Tnuy had the great idea of making the list of deaths, but now that it is finished I am thinking about proposing other sorts of lists to make for them.
I have only been editing a bit and organising stuff, nothing big, just the ususal stuff, plus the occasional conversation in the comments or on the blog.
Great you are back!
EDIT: We changed the date of Wodgiss Night for several reasons:
The date seemed to be totally random.
The date was set by a used who was not registered on the wiki.
The 21st is the day that the Chapter "Wodgiss Night" of WNW was uploaded. Makes more sense.
Hello! I just made a large change to the Twilight Woods article and I would appreciate it if you looked it over to check for errors and to see if you like the style. I intend to make similar changes to the Mire and Thorn Forests articles soon unless the style is disliked.
