Keris wearing the waistcoat
Twig's Hammelhornskin Waistcoat was a clothing item. It was offered by the slaughterer Ma-Tatum as a thank-you present for saving her son Gristle's life when Twig was thirteen years old (33 ᴇ.ʏ.).[1] It had toggles down the front.[1][2] Rubbing a hammelhorn the wrong way caused its fur to bristle, a quality that Twig's waistcoat also possessed and saved him from being eaten by a bloodoak tree.[3] Many years later, when Twig left the slaughterer's village (49 ᴇ.ʏ.) he gave it to his daughterKeris.[4] She wore it for years before being told by her uncle Gristle Tatum where it had come from. In 60 ᴇ.ʏ., Tweezel discovered Quint's sword miniature hidden inside the lining of the waistcoat, which had been placed there by Twig when he left the slaughterer village.
